Teach-In on Japan’s Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Crisis

Friday, March 25th, Rocky 300, 3:30-5:00

Japan has been hit by its worst natural disaster since 1923, as the 9.0-magnitude Tohoku earthquake triggered a devastating tsunami and the disruption of nuclear power reactors. Come hear first-hand accounts of this catastrophe from students and members of the Vassar community, and learn about the mechanics of this natural disaster, the potential consequences for nuclear power, and the ramifications for the Japanese economy.

Moderated by Jessica Peng, Class of 2011, the panel features James Challey, Senior Lecturer of Science, Technology and Society; Hiromi Tsuchiya Dollase, Associate Professor of Chinese and Japanese; Brian McAdoo, Associate Professor of Earth Science; Toru Momii, Class of 2011; Hiroe Nakada, Class of 2013; and Robert Rebelein, Associate Professor of Economics. Following the panel will be a question and answer session.
